KATE BRYAN IS CURRENTLY HEAD OF COLLECTIONS FOR SOHO HOUSE AND CO. AND HAS PREVIOUSLY ACTED AS DIRECTOR OF ART15, LONDON'S GLOBAL ART FAIR, AND DIRECTOR OF CONTEMPORARY AT LONDON'S OLDEST ART DEALERSHIP, THE FINE ART SOCIETY.
Kate's clear-talking, accessible style first came to television on The Culture Show (BBC 2). Kate challenged the critic to predict which entrants would make the exhibition, and of course, won. A rematch is in the making.
Kate went on to become a judge on two series of Portrait Artist of the Year (Storyvault for Sky Arts) and buoyed by the format's success can now be seen judging Landscape Artist of the Year also for Sky Arts. She has also presented a special programme to make the V&A exhibition Masterpeices of Chinese Painting for The Culture Show (BBC 2).
Kate lived and worked in Hong Kong for several years. Whilst there she studied Chinese Art, ran an art gallery, was the Contributing Editor for Asian Art News and World Sculpture News and wrote arts reviews for various HK publications.
Before leaving for Asia, Kate worked at the British Museum in London. She wrote her postgraduate thesis on Mary Magdalen at The University of Hong Kong and obtained her BA in Art History from The University of Warwick. She is a curator and passionate enthusiast about contemporary art. She is on a mission to make the contemporary art world and the notoriously opaque art market accessible and enjoyable to a wider audience.
